There’s been a lot of debate over the last few years regarding formal dining rooms: is anyone actually eating dinner there anymore? Or really, eating anything in there? When I look at the before photos, I’m amazed at how long it actually took us to start updating the space. But we were quickly able to transform the room and have a complete dining room makeover!
In our previous Rockland Home, we had no dining space – which was fine with us – balancing dinner plates while on the couch became a talent. So, when we moved into our Holbrook Home, there was no rush on updating the dining room.
Our dining room is the cross-through between our kitchen and front room. It was bright yellow, featured flower stickers on the wall, and a very thick chair-rail molding. It just wasn’t it.
When we moved in, we immediately ripped off the flower and butterfly decals and called it a day. And then we pretty much used the space (and table) as dumping grounds for anything we weren’t sure about.
One day I decided enough was enough – so we tore off the chair-rail molding, repaired the walls, and painted the room in Sherwin Williams Aesthetic White. We filled the room with our inherited dining table, chairs from Wayfair, a brand-new chandelier from West Elm, and a gorgeous print from Etsy.
Though there’s still more to do – I’m so thrilled with the dining room makeover we were able to achieve. Even if we still haven’t had dinner in there…
